Se absorbe por difusi\u00f3n pasiva, no se almacena en el organismo y los excedentes se eliminan en la orina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Su papel en el metabolismo se encuadra en los grupos prost\u00e9ticos de coenzimas o como precursora de las mismas. Compuestos esenciales en el metabolismo, como NADH y NAD+, y NADPH y NADP+, son derivados de \u00e9sta vitamina. Tambi\u00e9n participa en la reparaci\u00f3n del ADN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Grupo: Vitamina hidrosoluble<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Caracter\u00edsticas<\/strong>. Las mayores fuentes de niacina en la dieta diaria son el h\u00edgado, las carnes magras, el pollo, el pescado, la leche, el queso, los huevos, las verduras verdes, las nueces, las alubias secas, la levadura de cerveza y los cereales. El cuerpo humano tambi\u00e9n puede producir peque\u00f1as cantidades de niacina mediante el tript\u00f3fano, un amino\u00e1cido liberado durante la digesti\u00f3n de las prote\u00ednas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Funciones<\/strong>. Interviene en el metabolismo de los hidratos de carbono, las grasas y las prote\u00ednas. Colabora en las funciones del sistema nervioso y del digestivo. Favorece la producci\u00f3n de las hormonas sexuales. Conserva la piel sana.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trastornos<\/strong>. Es poco frecuente encontrarnos con estados carenciales, ya que nuestro organismo es capaz de producir una cierta cantidad de niacina a partir del tript\u00f3fano, amino\u00e1cido que forma parte de muchas prote\u00ednas que tomamos en una alimentaci\u00f3n mixta. Sin embargo, en pa\u00edses del Tercer Mundo, que se alimentan a base de ma\u00edz o de sorgo, aparece la pelagra, enfermedad caracterizada por dermatitis, diarrea y demencia (las tres D de la pelagra).
